Utsav Lal is pianist and educator from New Delhi, India known for his creative blending of Hindustani classical musical traditions with a modern approach to original composition and improvisation. In addition to his work as a sideman and accompanist, he has released five albums of solo piano music and has toured extensively throughout Asia, Europe, and North America. He has performed as a soloist and collaborative musician at renown western venues such as The South Bank Centre, Carnegie Hall, and The Kennedy Center.
Utsav is a dedicated teacher and is devoted to passing down the knowledge given to him by his teachers in India to improve the lives of the less fortunate and underserved. A long time student of Dhrupad legend Ustad F.W. Dagar, he has a comprehensive and direct knowledge of some of the oldest compositional forms in Indian Classical Music. He believes strongly in the power of these musical forms and works towards preserving them through performance practice and education.
Utsav is holds degrees in Contemporary Performance at the New England Conservatory and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
