After years of living under threat of persecution, the Muradi family left Afghanistan, moving to Pakistan, then Iran. With the support of our international community, Teach To Learn was able to secure funding, local sponsors, and refugee status with the Japanese government to help the family to move to Tokyo and settle into a new life.
Two years later, Jamshid and Latifa have graduated from an intensive Japanese language school. Studying hard five days per week, as much as five hours per day, they have officially graduated early from the program. Starting a new life in a foreign country is difficult, but they are taking all the right steps ensure their next chapter is full of health, happiness, and success!
Jamshid continues to perform flute in concerts throughout the city and takes online lessons with a Teach To Learn mentor each week. Latifa works at a sushi restaurant, spends time honing her judo skills at a local dojo, and has recently become engaged!
Our small team is inspired by the challenges they have overcome to build a new life in Japan, and is overjoyed by their progress. Their story is an example of what can be achieved with hard work, perseverance, and collaboration.
